The colorful little town of Jacksonville, only 5 miles west of Medford, was founded during the great, glory days of the Gold Rush. It’s a living example of our history here in the West.
The 1850’s architecture qualified the whole town to be on the National Register of Historic Places, of which there are only 8 in the entire country. Walking tours are extremely popular here. Some of the area’s finest history museums are found in Jacksonville.
Wonderful restaurants & boutiques line the Old West streets and the style of lodging is intimate and friendly. Plenty of B&B’s dot the town and surrounding countryside.
The crowning glory of Jacksonville is the Britt Music Festival, a summer attraction with world-renown, headline entertainment under the stars!

For three months every summer, the warm, night air comes alive with the sights and sounds of jazz, pop, folk, country, classical music and dance! The beautiful, hillside estate of pioneer-photographer Peter Britt, forms a perfect, natural amphitheater that shows off top, headline entertainment. Part of the fun of an evening under the stars at Britt is the picnic that leads up to showtime. Catch free demonstrations especially during Jacksonville’s monthly Art Amble. Beautiful finished products include hand-woven placemats, towels, rugs, handbags, hand-knit socks and felted hats. All products are American-made and many are crafted by local artisans. And their large selection of hand-woven baskets is a must-see. The old courthouse, a beautiful example of 19th century architecture, is host to an extensive collection that traces life in Jacksonville from it’s early days. The Children’s Museum has it’s own history going...it’s located in the old jailhouse! During the summer months, visit with old-time banker Cornelius Beekman and his family through “living history” interpreters.
